We operate comprehensive rail freight services to Germany from China's rail hubs — Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Guangzhou and Yiwu — with supplier pick-up across the country: Shenzhen, Shanghai, Ningbo and other cities are served by truck feeder to the nearest rail hub. Both FCL (full container load) and LCL (less-than-container load) options are available.
Germany is the largest rail freight market in Europe and the natural hub of the China–Europe Railway Express: Duisburg, the world's largest inland port, handles more China–Europe trains than any other European terminal, with Hamburg and Munich as further gateways. From these terminals we deliver door-to-door across all 16 federal states — including Frankfurt, Cologne, Stuttgart and Berlin.
Typical cargo on this lane includes automotive parts, machinery, electronics, textiles and e-commerce replenishment. Regular LCL consolidations from Xi'an — with departure days and cut-offs confirmed at booking — make Germany a strong choice when predictable departures matter.

Main rail corridor from China to Germany — key border crossings and terminals.
FCL station-to-station quotations use COC (carrier-provided container included). SOC requires the actual container hire/use charge for the shipment; this cost varies. Pickup, clearance, taxes, delivery and insurance may be included or quoted separately: confirm the quotation breakdown.

Check indicative ratesMain border crossings & transit corridor
Rail freight from China to Germany leaves Chinese territory through the Alashankou or Khorgos crossings in Xinjiang, where containers are transhipped from standard gauge to broad gauge at the Kazakh border — at Dostyk (opposite Alashankou) or Altynkol (opposite Khorgos). Trains then run along the northern Eurasian corridor — through Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus — to the European Union's eastern rail gateway at Brest/Małaszewicze, where containers are transhipped back to standard gauge for the final leg into Germany.
Małaszewicze in Poland is our primary European distribution hub: from here, containers reach most EU member states by rail or road feeder in about 1–4 days, depending on the destination and confirmed per shipment.
Transit times: station-to-station vs door-to-door
Station-to-station is the time between departure at the Chinese origin terminal and arrival at the destination terminal. Door-to-door adds pick-up at your supplier, export customs in China, import clearance and final delivery in Germany.

Customs documents for shipping to Germany
Our team prepares and checks the full documentation set for export from China and import into Germany:
- Commercial invoice
- Packing list
- Rail waybill (CIM/SMGS consignment note); CMR note for any road leg on door-to-door shipments
- EORI number of the consignee — EU-established businesses obtain it from the customs authority of their country of establishment, non-EU businesses from the member state of their first customs activity; an EORI issued by any EU member state is valid across the EU (it is not the same as a VAT number)
- CE marking and conformity documents where the product requires them
- Certificate of origin when the buyer or customs regime requires one
Missing or inconsistent documents are the most common cause of border delays — send drafts to our team before train departure and we will check them free of charge.
German customs clearance in practice
The consignee needs an EU EORI number. Businesses established in the EU apply in their country of establishment (in Germany via the customs (Zoll) online portal); operators not established in the EU generally apply in the member state where they first carry out customs activities. An EORI issued by any member state is valid across the EU — if you already have one, you do not need to reapply for Germany. An EORI is a customs identifier, separate from a VAT number. No EORI yet? Tell us early — import clearance cannot start without one.
Germany's standard import VAT rate is 19% (7% applies to some goods). The customs duty rate is set by your product's HS code in the EU TARIC database — verify it on the European Commission's Access2Markets portal before pricing your goods.
Regulated products (electronics, toys, PPE, machinery…) must carry CE marking with the declaration of conformity; customs can request these documents at import. Food-contact articles, cosmetics and chemicals have additional requirements — check with us before booking.
Send us your HS code (or a product description) and we will confirm rail acceptability and the exact clearance requirements for Germany before you book.
Cargo restrictions on China–Germany rail
Most general cargo moves freely on the China–Europe rail corridor, but railway safety rules are strict and enforced at every border crossing:
- General merchandise: electronics, machinery, textiles, furniture, auto parts, consumer goods
- New energy vehicles (NEVs), with the required transport documentation
- Chemical products — only with a non-hazardous safety appraisal report issued before booking
- Dangerous goods of any class
- Loose lithium batteries or battery-powered products (other than NEVs as above)
- Cargo prohibited under export-control or sanctions rules on the transit corridor — we screen HS codes before acceptance
Not sure whether your product qualifies? Send us the HS code and a product description — we confirm acceptability before you book.
FCL vs LCL: which option fits your shipment?
Both options run on the same trains to Germany. The right choice depends mainly on volume, cargo sensitivity and budget:
Your goods travel in an exclusive 40'HQ container (≈68 CBM usable) at a flat rate: lower cost per CBM on larger volumes, fewer handlings and faster terminal release.
Your pallets share a consolidated container with other shippers and are de-consolidated at our European hub. You pay per CBM with a 1 CBM minimum — no need to fill a whole container.

FAQ: rail freight from China to Germany
How long does rail freight from China to Germany take?
Station-to-station, LCL consolidations from Xi'an reach Duisburg in about 18-25 days and Hamburg in 18-25 days. Door-to-station and door-to-door timing is confirmed per shipment, based on pickup address, consolidation, train departure, customs clearance and final delivery. No fixed number of days is added to rail transit.
How much does rail freight from China to Germany cost?
Indicative rates: LCL from USD 195 per CBM (minimum 1 CBM) and FCL 40'HQ rates on request. Final pricing depends on cargo details, pick-up address and the departure schedule — request a firm quote before booking.
Which German terminals do you serve?
Our main rail terminals in Germany are Duisburg, Hamburg and Munich. Duisburg is the primary China–Europe rail hub and where LCL is de-consolidated; from all three terminals we deliver door-to-door anywhere in Germany, including Frankfurt, Cologne, Stuttgart, Leipzig and Berlin.
Do you handle customs clearance in Germany?
Yes. We manage the export declaration in China and import clearance at the German terminal through our terminal agents. You need a commercial invoice, packing list and an EU EORI number for the consignee; we check all documents before departure. Certain goods (for example CE-regulated products, chemicals or battery-powered items) require additional conformity or safety documents — we confirm the exact list for your cargo before departure.
Can you ship batteries or dangerous goods to Germany by rail?
We do not carry dangerous goods or loose lithium batteries. New energy vehicles are accepted with the required documentation, and chemical products only with a non-hazardous safety appraisal report issued before booking.
Should I choose FCL or LCL for Germany?
There is no fixed CBM cut-off. LCL is charged per CBM, while a 40'HQ holds about 68 CBM at a flat rate, so the break-even point depends on the current LCL rate, your cargo density and the handling fees at both ends. Send us your volume and weight and we will price both options side by side.
How is LCL rail freight to Germany charged?
LCL is billed per CBM with a 1 CBM minimum. Very dense cargo may be rated by chargeable weight instead of volume. Palletisation, oversized pieces and terminal handling are itemised separately on the quote. Send us your carton or pallet dimensions and total weight — we will calculate the exact chargeable amount before you commit.
