We operate comprehensive rail freight services to Turkey from China's rail hubs — Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Guangzhou and Yiwu — with supplier pick-up across the country: Shenzhen, Shanghai, Ningbo and other cities are served by truck feeder to the nearest rail hub. Both FCL (full container load) and LCL (less-than-container load) options are available.

Turkey is served via the Middle Corridor: trains cross Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea and the South Caucasus, then enter Turkey on the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars line to Istanbul. Cargo shipped direct from China clears as a standard Turkish import — duty follows your HS code in the Turkish customs tariff, plus import VAT.

Typical cargo includes machinery, electronics, textiles and consumer goods. Documentation is specific to this lane — a direct import from China clears with the standard Turkish import entry, which our Istanbul partner broker prepares together with the duty/VAT calculation for your HS code. From Istanbul we deliver door-to-door across Turkey, including Ankara, Izmir and Bursa.

FCL station-to-station quotations use COC (carrier-provided container included). SOC requires the actual container hire/use charge for the shipment; this cost varies. Pickup, clearance, taxes, delivery and insurance may be included or quoted separately: confirm the quotation breakdown.

Main border crossings & transit corridor

Rail freight from China to Turkey leaves Chinese territory through the Alashankou or Khorgos crossings in Xinjiang, with gauge transhipment at Dostyk, then crosses Kazakhstan to the Caspian port of Aktau. Containers continue by Caspian feeder to Baku and by rail over the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars line through Georgia into Turkey, arriving at the Istanbul terminals.

Transit times: station-to-station vs door-to-door

Station-to-station is the time between departure at the Chinese origin terminal and arrival at the destination terminal. Door-to-door adds pick-up at your supplier, export customs in China, import clearance and final delivery in Turkey.

Customs documents for shipping to Turkey

Our team prepares and checks the full documentation set for export from China and import into Turkey:

  • Commercial invoice
  • Packing list
  • Rail waybill (CIM/SMGS consignment note); CMR note for any road leg on door-to-door shipments
  • Import duty and VAT calculation for your HS code (Turkish customs tariff)
  • Turkish import declaration — handled by our partner agents on arrival
  • Certificate of origin when the buyer or customs regime requires one

Cargo shipped direct from China clears Turkish customs as a standard import: duty depends on your HS code in the Turkish tariff, plus import VAT. The A.TR movement certificate applies only to goods already in free circulation in the EU or Turkey — it does not cover this direct lane. Our Istanbul partner broker prepares the import entry.

Turkish customs clearance in practice

Customs registration

Turkey is outside the EU customs territory but has a customs union with the EU for industrial goods. For Turkish import clearance the consignee needs a Turkish tax number and a registered importer; our partner broker in Istanbul prepares the import entry. No EU EORI is needed on this lane — trains reach Turkey via the Middle Corridor, not through the EU.

Import duty & VAT

Direct imports from China pay Turkish import duty according to the HS code in the Turkish customs tariff, plus VAT — standard rate 20%, reduced rates 10% and 1% for certain goods. (The A.TR duty-free arrangement applies only to goods already in free circulation in the EU or Turkey, not to this direct lane.) Confirm the exact duty for your HS code with our Istanbul broker before booking. (Checked September 2026.)

Product compliance

Turkey follows EU-aligned technical rules for most industrial products — CE marking is generally required for regulated products (electronics, machinery, toys, PPE). Send us your HS code and we will confirm the exact requirements before booking.

Not sure about your product?

Send us your HS code (or a product description) and we will confirm rail acceptability and the exact clearance requirements for Turkey before you book.

Cargo restrictions on China–Turkey rail

Most general cargo moves freely on the China–Europe rail corridor, but railway safety rules are strict and enforced at every border crossing:

What we can carry
  • General merchandise: electronics, machinery, textiles, furniture, auto parts, consumer goods
  • New energy vehicles (NEVs), with the required transport documentation
  • Chemical products — only with a non-hazardous safety appraisal report issued before booking
What we cannot carry
  • Dangerous goods of any class
  • Loose lithium batteries or battery-powered products (other than NEVs as above)
  • Cargo prohibited under export-control or sanctions rules on the transit corridor — we screen HS codes before acceptance

Not sure whether your product qualifies? Send us the HS code and a product description — we confirm acceptability before you book.

FCL vs LCL: which option fits your shipment?

Both options run on the same trains to Turkey. The right choice depends mainly on volume, cargo sensitivity and budget:

FCL — full container load

Your goods travel in an exclusive 40'HQ container (≈68 CBM usable) at a flat rate: lower cost per CBM on larger volumes, fewer handlings and faster terminal release.

LCL — less than container load

Your pallets share a consolidated container with other shippers and are de-consolidated at our European hub. You pay per CBM with a 1 CBM minimum — no need to fill a whole container.

Indicative rates cover the rail leg only. Pick-up, customs clearance, duties and taxes, final delivery and insurance are quoted separately as applicable.

FAQ: rail freight from China to Turkey

How long does rail freight from China to Turkey take?

Via the Middle Corridor and the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway, shipments reach Istanbul in about 18-25 days station-to-station. Door-to-station and door-to-door timing is confirmed per shipment, based on pickup address, consolidation, train departure, customs clearance and final delivery. No fixed number of days is added to rail transit.

How much does rail freight from China to Turkey cost?

Rates for this lane are quoted manually — send us your cargo details for a current offer. Final pricing depends on cargo details, pick-up address and the departure schedule — request a firm quote before booking.

What is the A.TR certificate and do I need one?

For cargo shipped direct from China, no. An A.TR movement certificate proves that goods are already in free circulation within the EU–Turkey customs union — it applies to EU–Turkey trade, not to a direct import from China. Your shipment clears as a standard Turkish import: duty per your HS code plus 20% import VAT (reduced rates for certain goods). Our Istanbul broker prepares the entry and confirms the exact amount before booking.

Which Turkish terminals do you serve?

Istanbul is our main arrival point. From there we deliver door-to-door across Turkey, including Ankara, Izmir and Bursa.

Can you ship batteries or dangerous goods to Turkey by rail?

We do not carry dangerous goods or loose lithium batteries. New energy vehicles are accepted with the required documentation, and chemical products only with a non-hazardous safety appraisal report issued before booking.
